The Bass Reeves Legacy of Justice Award honors a law enforcement officer who exemplifies unwavering courage, integrity, and dedication in the pursuit of justice, reflecting the spirit and character of Deputy U.S. Marshal Bass Reeves. Presented annually at the Bass Reeves Western History Conference in Muskogee, Oklahoma, this prestigious award recognizes an individual law enforcement officer that has demonstrated exceptional service, ethical leadership, and a commitment to protecting their community. For now, this award will be open to federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officers assigned at in or near Muskogee, OK. Deadlines for entry will be May 1st of each year.
Criteria for Selection:
• Exemplary Service: Demonstrated outstanding commitment and excellence in law enforcement, embodying the values of justice, fairness, and duty.
• Courage Under Pressure: Displayed extraordinary bravery and resilience in the face of adversity.
• Community Impact: Contributed positively to the safety, trust, and well-being of the communities they serve.
• Ethical Leadership: Maintained high moral standards and inspired peers through ethical conduct and decision-making.

Award Presentation:
The award recipient will receive:
- Presentation of a custom-designed plaque or bronze medallion featuring an engraving of Bass Reeves to be presented by Three Rivers Museum staff/board members or by the featured guest speaker.
- A presentation photo and write-up of the LEO’s award to be featured in the Muskogee Phoenix
- Free admission to the BRWHC in 2025 for the recipient and one guest.
